What Makes SEND at Heart Different?

SEND at Heart is a mentorship — a companion for the lifelong journey of parenting a child with additional needs.

It is built on emotional safety and has a core purpose of walking with parents through the weight of the SEND journey, equipping you with self-compassion and helping you become the calm, confident advocate your child needs. We’ve been on the inside — as teachers, SENCOs and Local Authority officers. we respect the professionals who work tirelessly to support children and that’s why we guide parents to collaborate. Sometimes this means hearing hard truths. Sometimes it means discovering that your child’s needs can be supported without an EHCP, but always, it means being held with honesty, empathy and calm strength — so you can show up for your child not just today, but for the long road ahead.

Frequently asked questions

What is the role of the school in this process?

The school plays an important part in identifying and supporting your child’s needs. SEND at Heart helps you understand how to work closely with the school to ensure everyone is aligned. By collaborating with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals, we’ll make sure the right steps are taken to support your child’s growth.

What if I’m not sure whether my child has SEND?

That’s exactly what we’ll explore together. We’ll guide you through the steps of identifying and seeking appropriate support, from discussing concerns with the school to seeking professional assessments and working towards an application for an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP), if that is necessary.

How can I work with the school to get the best support for my child?

We’ll equip you with the tools to have productive conversations with your child’s school. Our communication templates and consultations will help you understand how to approach the school in a collaborative, solution-focused way. Together, we’ll make sure the school is clear on your child’s needs and the support they need to help them thrive.

What if the school is already offering some support?

That’s great! SEND at Heart will advise on the support already in place, ensuring it’s the right fit for your child. We’ll guide you on how to assess and adapt the support to make sure your child’s needs are fully met, ensuring that the right professionals are involved.
